Gaming and the Art of Level Design
This is where my interest in the realm of web, graphic, and 3D art began. It all began somewhere between 2000 and 2001. I was turned on to an online multiplayer first person shooter called Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. Not long after getting into the game play, I discovered the joy of building custom levels. Out of that grew an eternal love for Photoshop, 3D design software, and web site development and design.
What exactly is level design, you ask?
It is the process of creating 3D environments or “worlds” for players interact with video games on their PCs or on game consoles machine.
Basically, designers use level editing software to build 3d architecture, then apply textures or shaders, also known as materials to the surfaces of that architecture so that players can see it in the game.
I am aware that gaming and graphics technology is progressing at a very fast pace, and this description does not completely do justice to current technology. As my interests grew over time, I have not been able to keep up with the pace of technology in the gaming industry. I hope one day soon, however, that I will be able to catch myself up.
Here a sampling of some of the projects I worked on for Jedi Outcast.
